Facebook Messenger setup and availability

Understand Messenger availability, Facebook Page requirements, inbox access and the checks needed before going live.

Check availability first

Facebook Messenger connects a Facebook Page, rather than a personal Facebook inbox. Bow Chat's Messenger onboarding is being prepared for general customer availability. Contact Bow Chat Support before planning a customer rollout.

As checked on 18 October 2026, the separate Meta approval and Page/webhook setup needed for general customer Messenger onboarding are unfinished. Bow Chat's approved direct Instagram messaging connection does not supply Messenger approval. An owned or tester account working during development does not prove that ordinary customers can connect.

You do not need to create your own developer app or apply for Bow Chat's app permissions. Bow Chat handles its integration review. Your business still needs control of the Page and must grant the connection permissions when the channel is available.

Prepare your Page

  • Use the Facebook login that has the necessary management access to the intended business Page.
  • Confirm the correct Bow Chat workspace and an administrator login.
  • Decide which agents should handle Page messages.
  • If another inbox tool already handles the Page, agree on the handover before changing its connection. Do not disconnect a working customer service channel just to try setup.

Connect when Support confirms readiness

  1. Open Account Settings → Inboxes → Add Inbox → Facebook.
  2. Continue through Facebook login and grant the required Page permissions.
  3. Select the intended Page and finish creating the Bow Chat inbox.
  4. Add the agents who need access, then review the inbox's Collaborators settings.
  5. From a consenting test person's Messenger account, send the Page a new message.
  6. Confirm it reaches Bow Chat, reply as an agent and verify that the reply reaches the test person's Messenger conversation.

See Give an agent inbox access if the inbox exists but staff cannot see its messages.

Troubleshooting

If the Page is absent, check the Facebook login, Page access and the consent selection. If connection reports an app-access or permission problem, send Support the error and Page name; creating repeated inboxes or adding customers as app testers is not the solution.

Follow Meta's customer-initiated messaging and reply-window rules. Do not use a connected Page as an unrestricted bulk messaging channel. Keep passwords, Page access tokens and authorization codes out of support messages and screenshots.
